Go Build Alabama, an initiative of the Alabama Construction Recruitment Institute (ACRI), will serve as the title sponsor of the Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association (ASABFA).
The first competition of the fishing association is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11 at Lake Martin. Additional competitions are scheduled throughout the year at lakes including Smith Lake and Guntersville Lake.
“This sponsorship is an excellent way for us to connect with young passionate students who may be interested in a trade industry career,” said Jason Phelps, executive director of Go Build Alabama. “We’re very impressed with the talent coming out of these competitions and we look forward to meeting more students.”
The ASABFA aims to promote the sport of bass fishing among Alabama’s youth in a supportive, positive and educational environment in which every student angler may develop angling skills, a healthy sense of competition, ethics and an appreciation of Alabama’s natural resources in a team environment.
About Go Build Alabama
ACRI launched the Go Build campaign in August of 2010 in effort to prepare for the anticipated shortage as older tradesmen leave the workforce. One third of all skilled tradesmen in the construction industry are over the age of 50. With their retirement on the horizon, training programs are not producing enough young workers to replace those exiting the industry. The Go Build campaign aims to recruit the next generation of skilled construction trade workers. Visit GoBuildAlabama.com for more.
